This book is a very clear and informative introduction to queer theology. It can be easily understood by those who are new to the concept of theology as well as those who are new to the concept of queer or queer theology.

The idea of radical love is apparent throughout Cheng's by: “That being said, I would still recommend this book, because it makes a valuable contribution to an important and timely discussion.” (INTAMS review - Journal for the Study of Marriage & Spirituality, 18 January )"Queer Theology manages to maintain both coherence and a consistently high level of theory, debate and reflection throughout.

While it will certainly become indispensable for 5/5(1). Queer Theology is providing a platform for soul inquiry which is accessible, readable, and doesn't feel like a crash-course in seminary. Its resources read like I think, like my friends and I talk, and it's doing theology in a way that feels very human and humane.

This book introduced a lot of new concepts and ideas to me. It will take some more work to fully grasp it all. Queer Theology is meant to be an accessible introduction to queer theology studies, but even so, don’t expect this to be an easy read.

It has whetted my appetite, and I /5. Paul Griffiths on Tonstad’s Queer Theology: Beyond Apologetics Linn Marie Tonstad, Queer Theology: Beyond Apologetics, Eugene, Oregon, Cascade Books, viii + pp., $ T onstad’s book is a concise, clear, lively, and provocative introduction to its topic, as well as a contribution to it.

It’s rare for a book to be both, and even more so when the book’s as short as this one. At Queer Theology we’ve developed a ton of resources over the years. On this page we’ve got them organized by topic so you can find exactly what you’re looking for exactly when you need it. From asking if it’s okay to be LGBTQ to navigating sex and relationships to finding a church.

You need support. Queer Theology. K likes. Queer Theology: Because queer people have more to offer the world than what we are not. However, Radical Love is the first introductory textbook on the subject of queer theology. In this lucid and compelling introduction, Cheng provides a historical survey of how queer theology has developed from the s to today and then explicates the themes of queer theology using the ecumenical creeds as a general framework.

Nominal Queer theology doesn’t possess a monopoly on life’s queerness. For this reason there can exist religious and cultural forms that pay serious attention to life’s queerness and nonetheless express this concern and commitment in non-queer form and language. Queer theology, by its nature, is not focused on gender binaries.

So, in this way, it disrupts the patriarchy or status quo. Instead of empowering hierarchical status, Queer theology allows for the idea that context, experience, and one’s personhood will. This is a very fine introduction to Queer Theology. The author is an Assistant Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA, USA.

In this volume, Cheng is especially attentive to both the historical and systematic dimensions of. The first third of the book gallops through the history and method of queer theology.

The barrage of snippets from theologians feels somewhat disjointed and overwhelming, but does provide a taste. "This book is a clear, accessible and exciting analysis of Queer Theology. Linn Tonstad responds to Paul Griffiths Linn Marie Tonstad, Queer Theology: Beyond Apologetics, Eugene, Oregon, Cascade Books, viii + pp., $ First, I want to express my thanks to Paul Griffiths for his review—not just its generosity, but the degree of seriousness with which he has engaged a book that hoped to elicit just such a response, whether in further development, debate.

A "Queer Theology" take on a passage from today's lectionary ⬇️ In today’s episode, we answer a reader question about how certain ideas about what happened on the cross (what theology geeks call “penal substitutionary atonement”) and other harmful interpretation passages can foster shame and decrease a queer person’s self-esteem.

Queer theology increasingly draws upon the body of philosophy known as queer theory. Inspired by the work of Michel Foucault and associated with queer philosophers and sociologists such as Gayle Rubin, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Judith Butler and Jeffrey Weeks, queer theory rejects the view (often termed 'essentialism') that sexuality is a drive.

Simply put, if theology is defined as "talk about God" (that is, theos [God] + logos [word]), then queer theology can be understood as queer talk about God. This, of course, leads to the question of what exactly is meant by the term "queer," which is a more complicated Edition: Digital Original.
